With Waves now supporting AAX DSP, the DLS and DLI mean that ProTools users can, once again, have full access to the vast palette of Waves plug-ins.īoth interfaces feature 64 digital inputs / 64 digital outputs, the DiGiGrid DLI being custom-engineered for users of large Pro Tools systems who require the extra processing power of a dedicated SoundGrid DSP server.īoth the DLI and DLS have a built-in SoundGrid DSP server and certified SoundGrid switch, making this the ideal integrated solution for users who want to expand their existing ProTools systems, while enjoying the convenience of an all-in-one hardware interface. Originating with DiGiCo using SoundGrid to implement Waves plugin processing on its digital mixing consoles, it was an obvious ‘next step’ to open it up to users of different software DAWs, via the addition of hardware interfaces. More details from Avid ( A result of the partnership between DiGiCo and Waves announced in 2013, DiGiGrid is an ultra-low latency audio network that combines dedicated audio interfaces with the Waves SoundGrid network. For that immediate real-time processing and monitoring you’ll need a SoundGrid audio interface, but if you’ve just got your regular USB one then you can still route processing over the network at your audio interfaces regular latency.Avid noted that users of its ProTools TDM and HDX systems can once again have all the benefits of full integration with Waves SoundGrid plug-ins, thanks to DiGiGrid’s DLS and DLI interfaces. It’s running an i5-6200u processor with 4GB of RAM and housed in a durable aluminium casing. Waves have basically taken an Intel NUC Mini PC and branded it – which is a very cool idea. To make it all work you need some SoundGrid Host software running on Windows or MacOS which controls the network, you’ll need a SoundGrid compatible audio interface and then a SoundGrid DSP server – that’s what the SoundGrid Mobile Server is a mini version of. It’s a versatile technology that does away with loads of cabling and equipment. In a live situation it’s good for real-time processing, it can also record whole shows and it can route audio to the stage or different rooms. It also allows you to route audio between rooms in a similar way to other network protocols like Dante and RedNet. You can use it in the studio as a DSP box and because of the low latency it’s completely possible to monitor directly through. It can handle multiple computers and audio interfaces provided they are connected to the same network. It’s proprietary so it’s not having to wade through Windows or MacOS which is why it can be so fast and efficient. This happens over standard ethernet cables at extremely low latencies. What’s SoundGrid? SoundGrid is a system whereby you can route audio through software running on a computer-based box and process it in realtime using Waves plug-ins.
